Lamentation

Reached out through the light
to blindfold myself,
though I fear the dark.

Was lead like a child
through the wild streets
hating every moment.

Every breath an agony
of whispered shame
and sordid secrets.

Pain ripped the blind
away from my eyes
but still I couldn't see.

Sunblind and stunned
I grabbed the nearest hand
following the leader.

Memorized the cobbles
that paved my way
fear weighing upon my head.

Sorrow dulled my step
stumbling made my grasp fail
to be left leaderless.

Stood dully before looking up
I'd been left in a maze
of my own mind.

I lament,
never clearly seeing the path I took
nor finding the escape I need.

I lament,
a childhood lost too soon
an adulthood impossible to find.

Bitter tears give voice
to my clarion lamentation.
